Former NFL running back Alex Collins tragically died on Monday as a result of a motorbike accident, according to the Seattle Seahawks. Age-wise, he was 28.
The Collins family issued the following statement via the Seahawks: “With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our beloved Alex Collins today morning.” “Alex was adored by people all over the world in addition to his family and friends. He was inspirational, unyielding in his resolve, and had a larger-than-life personality, as those who knew him well would confirm. We ask for discretion as we work through our loss. We will give information on the final services as soon as arrangements are ready.
In the fifth round of the 2016 NFL Draft, the Seattle Seahawks selected Collins. He spent one season with the team prior to joining the Ravens for two. He returned to Seattle for two more seasons after a year away. Recently, he was a member of the Memphis Showboats of the USFL.
Additionally, the Ravens issued a statement in which they said, “With heavy hearts, we mourn the passing of Alex Collins.” “He was genuinely a gentle spirit who offered a unique delight and passion wherever he went, always quick with a smile and a warm greeting. For the joy and love he brought into the lives of so many people, Alex will always be remembered. We offer his family our sincere sympathies and assistance. I wish him peace.
Head coach of the Ravens, John Harbaugh, also issued a statement saying, “It was a joy to be around Alex, and he was a person whose light truly shined. I will always remember him as a great teammate, a person with an uplifting spirit, who left a positive impact on everyone he encountered.” He was also an agile player who ran with boundless determination and contributed significantly to our success during his time in Baltimore.
The Seahawks also posted their condolences: “I am deeply saddened. Prayers for the Collins family.”
Seahawks Executive Vice President/General Manager John Schneider stated, “Hearing of Alex’s passing, along with the entire Seahawks family, 12’s are saddened.” “Alex’s infectious smile and classic river dance skills will forever be remembered. Alex lit up a room and was our entire building’s favorite. He embraced life and attacked the game of football. He was one of the most productive runners in AAF history. Our deep condolences to his immediate family, Gatewood family, and his agent Kelly Masters. You will be forever remembered, Alex. The majority of his wealth was derived from his football career. According to Spotrac, Collins earned a career income of $3,047,407 over five years in the NFL.
